Joe,
I would like to just throw my hat in the ring as Den Leader, but the very real fact is that I travel pretty regularly for my job. It's ben already evident this year because I've missed one pack meeting and two den meetings. Unfortunately, for most trips I have no flexibility in scheduling or making changes. Also, part of my personal "make-up," if you will, includes a sense of commitment. That is, I will commit to something only if I know I have the time/resources to get the task completed properly. That's part of the reason I volunteered for the Pack newsletter. That's something I can do well, but perhaps more importantly, somewhat on my schedule. I will, however, see that I include myself in whatever Den activities I can.
By the way, I'm inching closer to having a Go For It "behind the scenes" at the Milwaukee Bucks. It looks like March 17 might work, but I still need to make arrangements. Hopefully I can nail this down in the next week or so.
Hope you understand.
Mark

Tiger Parents:
As most of you know, I have agreed to become the next Pack 474 Cubmaster, succeeding Michelle Schmidt. I will continue to coordinate the TIGER activities until fall 2002. At that time, your boys will be new WOLVES.
I consider it an honor and privilege to work with so many energetic, creative, young people. I hope you will too. Here is where I need your help. I will not be a Den Leader and Cubmaster. Two of YOU (or your spouses) need to agree to lead the Den. One of you must be a "registered" Leader. (Preferably BOTH of you-says the scout office) I will work with the first two that step forward to give information and coaching. This is an exciting time in your son's development. Don't miss a chance to be a real influence in not just YOUR son's life, but in the lives of his peers. Call me at 777-0047 to discuss what will be expected of you. YOU CAN DO IT!
NOW: Tonight's GO FOR IT!
Attached is a .pdf about it.
Please meet in the UPPER church parking lot at 3:50 PM SHARP!
ALSO: PINEWOOD NEWS
I heard that a few of you went to Lincoln School last Tuesday for a "Weigh-In." Sorry that happened. I emailed the changes in the dates, but perhaps I failed to highlight the change. Hope this was not a huge inconvenience for your family. Attached is a .pdf of the most current PACK news. Pay special attention to the PLACE of the actual race on the 29th. IT HAS BEEN CHANGED to the Boy Scout Pieper Power Center in the basement of the center. Make a note. The "Weigh-in" is still at Lincoln School on the 22nd from 6:30 - 8:00 PM (NOTE):This is just a weigh-in and opportunity to "test" your cars. It is not a PACK meeting.
BLUE AND GOLD DINNER:
Attached is also another chance to register your family for the February 18th Blue and Gold Dinner. Don't miss the February 6th cut-off date for registration and payment!
Thanks for ALL you do for our boys!

Joe,
We'll have to figure out some logistics, but here's a Go For It at the Milwaukee Bucks for March. Think people can make a Sunday morning? Given how much the Bradley Center is utilized, I doubt if we have alot of flexibility in timing.
Do you want me to email Den One, or will you do that? I'll be out of town Feb 18-20, so maybe we can give my wife Karen a head count at the Blue/Gold dinner.
Regards,
Mark

Bascially a tour of locker room etc. They can take pics, but he said to

be about 1/2 hour. Hopefully it won't be lame.

OK... let's try it again. I found were a few oddities, among them that I
forgot to actually assign the ip address to your directory on the web
server (I had already set it up on the DNS servers). How do you spell
"duh"?
>By the way. On my WS_FTP Pro I can click on the green arrow UP a level
>and see ALL the sites there. I don't think I should be able to do

You are correct. Don't know how that happened either but thanks for saying
something. I mad a few changes and tried logging in with the "scouts"
account and access is now denied to anything above the cubscouts
directory. Please try it from your end and let me know if you can still
traverse directories to a higher level... This is a new server and some of
the bugs are still lurking in odd places... like the default permissions
given to ftp users. I don't know why they don't write this stuff so that
the apps start out with the highest level of security/least level of
permission and then we can adjust to more open as needed...
At any rate I have again placed a temporary index.html file in the
cubscouts subdir. Make sure you see it there when you ftp in the first
time.

Joe,
For Tuesday night, I have a 28 minute video on space exploration. You said there is a tv and vcr in that room - I just wanted to check again with you and confirm that it'll be available this Tuesday evening.
I also have three little projects:
1. Planisphere at http://www.otterbein.edu/dept/PHYS/is410/plan.html
2. Flip Book at http://www.windows.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/tour_def/teacher_resources/flipbooks/flipbook_main.html (the aurora oval flip book)
3. Boomerang at http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/TRC/Aeronautics/Four_Wing_Boomerang.html
I've made 15 copies of the planisphere templates, and printed 15 copies of the flip book pages and boomerang template. I'll be bringing along 30 file folders - one folder for each tiger to take all the stuff home in, and a second for each to use in making the planisphere and boomerang. I know this is probably too much with the video too - but the tigers can just take home the supplies for the projects that they don't have time to work on in the meeting.
I seem to recall that there was a craft supplies type box at one of the meetings - so I'm wondering if there will be pencils or pens, scissors, and/or elmer's glue available. The projects require lots of paper cutting, so it would be best if most of the boys had a scissors to work with - I can bring maybe six scissors with me if I need to.
I also created a list of astronomy and space links, http://home.wi.rr.com/alberthome/space.html . I'm thinking I might print a sheet of paper for each tiger with this link URL on it, so they can nag their parents to explore space-related web sites with them, hahaha. Also though, I thought I'd send out an email after the meeting to introduce the go-for-it, and also include the link URL in that email.
For the go-for-it, I've tried to get a guided hike arranged in one of the parks but they really book groups early - and could not find anything available. What I have going on now, but have to finalize today (hopefully) is at Riveredge http://www.riveredgenc.org/ (directions are available http://www.riveredgenc.org/html/maps.html ). On Saturday, April 20 there is an Earth Day Celebration - Work and Learn program going on - it is geared towards children - where the employees/volunteers there teach kids various things about nature, and then ask the kids to do some work in return. The lady in charge said our group would fit in nicely with their program - she said maybe 1st graders would be doing something like picking up litter on the grounds. Early last week she was trying to finalize their plans - laying out the details for the "work" and "learn" tasks and asked me to call back early this week to get more details. The program officially runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - kids bring a bag lunch with them; however, she said we could attend just part of the day ... I was thinking something like 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Well hopefully I'll know more about the go-for-it Tuesday evening. Please let me know about the supplies, so I know what I need to bring along!
Regards,
Kevin Albert

Dear Parents,
Next DEN Meeting
On April 9th, 2002 (6:30 PM) we will be meeting in the Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church room 4-6.
Kevin Albert is leading that night's den activities. We only have 2 DEN meetings left!
"BOBCAT" is Required
NOTICE:
In order for your boys to advance into CUB SCOUTING at the WOLF level next fall, they will have to have completed the BOBCAT requirements (see attachment or your Tiger Book for details).
You need to be working with your boys to achieve these. At our next PACK meeting on April 16, 2002 (7:00 PM) at the Lincoln School Gymnasium, I will conduct a "Special Tiger Graduation Ceremony" so BE READY!
PLEASE!
Our children deserve to know who will be leading them in Cub Scouts.
We STILL need 4 parents to step forward and assume the Den Leadership Roles for next year. (as Wolves) Discuss this with each other and give me an answer by the May Den Meeting on the 14th! I will not go into the fall season begging for leadership for the upcoming year.
Cubmaster,

Subject: Tiger Cub Go-For-It April 20 Info, and Follow-up from April 9 Den Meeting
Date: 4/10/02
First I want to say that I hope all the Tigers enjoyed the Astronomy and Space activities that took place during the den meeting on Tuesday, April 9. For anybody that is interested in references to the projects we worked on, or more online references please visit the links page I created at http://home.wi.rr.com/alberthome/space.html . We did not have time to build the boomerang http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/TRC/Aeronautics/Four_Wing_Boomerang.html, or the flip book http://www.windows.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/tour_def/teacher_resources/flipbooks/flipbook_main.html . If anybody has questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Now onto the GO-FOR-IT !
The April GO-FOR-IT will be a trip to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, on Saturday, April 20th. The Center is located at 1111 E. Brown Deer Road, 414-352-2880. Their main website is located at http://www.schlitzauduboncenter.com/ .
Because April 22 is Earth Day, the Center has many free events planned for April 20th. Detailed information about all the day's events at the Center is available here: http://www.schlitzauduboncenter.com/events.htm . The person I spoke with on the phone also said there is some type of theatrical presentation of a Dr. Seuss story at 11:00 and repeated at 3:30, which is not listed at the link above. Although there is an entrance fee, I'm assuming that is waived for Earth Day but you may want to be prepared to pay the normal fee of $4 for anybody over the age of 12.
I thought the Pond Exploration at 1:00 p.m. would be interesting to the Tigers, so we'll make this the main event for our group. We'll plan to meet in the lobby at the Center, at 12:45. This way you could get there earlier if something in the morning interests you, and meet up with the group later. Also, because our families are all busy with other activities, it may be inconvenient for some to meet in Tosa before going to the Center.
Depending on the interest level of the Tigers and the duration of the Pond Exploration, perhaps we could also see the Live Reptiles & Amphibians exhibit at 2:00 p.m. For those that want to stay longer, there are also Arts & Crafts for kids going on from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., and the Dr. Seuss presentation at 3:30 p.m.
I will be able to take a few Tigers with Ethan and I for families that have otherwise-occupied adults; please let me know if you require assistance. Others may wish to organize car pools amongst themselves. Regardless of how you are getting there, please let me know whether you plan to attend by replying to this email or calling me at 258-5169 so I'll have a head-count.
Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin in 1970. On the first Earth Day, 20 million Americans demonstrated for a healthier environment. Each year Earth Day has expanded, and in the year 2000 there were over 5000 groups in 184 countries celebrating Earth Day and reaching hundreds of millions of people. If you want to learn more about Earth Day, please visit the Earth Day Network at http://www.earthday.net/ .

Hi Joe!
Just checking with you about tonight's meeting. I dropped Cameron off at
7:00 tonight because the notice in the bulletin said the meeting was at 7.
Cameron called me at 8:00 from a cell phone at church because nobody else
showed up. There were older scouts there, and the leader also thought there
was a meeting for the younger boys tonight. I guess I misunderstood. Was
there a meeting? Was it at church?
I have the paperwork you gave me filled out and ready to go. Let me know
what I should do with it.
Also Cameron told me you told him he would be a Bobcat next year, but I
thought you told me he would be a Webelo. Can you clarify that for me.

You are correct, however, it is apparently traditional for the pack to supply the "meat" for the grills. All the "paper products, utensils, etc. was sorta forgotten in the delegation phase, so I suggested to Bracken that THIS time, the Pack supply it as well. Mr. Curtis,
I am the new Cubmaster for Lincoln's Cubscout Pack 474. I am asking to find out when your "open house" night will be so that I may set up a "new scout sign-up" table. (as ex-cubmaster, Michelle Schmidt did last year)Would you please let me know the details of that evening as soon as you know?
ALSO: I need to schedule all the Pack meetings into your school calendar. If this is done through Ann, would you please pass this request along? We have traditionally met the third Tuesday of each month in your gymnasium, from 7 to 8 PM. I need access to the gym from 6:30 PM (for set-up) until 8:15 (for clean-up) I also wish to request a copy of the key to the door that the scouts keep their supplies in. I will sign all necessary papers that would allow me that priveledge. (Mr. Greg is very friendly and accommodating, however it is not fair to be interrupting his routine within Lincoln whenever we need to access our supplies.)
Thank you so much! I'll be looking forward to your reply.

LEADER MEETING ALERT!!!
A reminder that we will have the first Cub Scout Pack 474 Leader meeting:
7:00 PM until 8:30 PM* on Tuesday, September 10, 2002
My home on 3007 N. 70th Street. (70th and Lisbon - backed up to Enderis Park)
It is my wish that at least one of your team of Den Leaders attend this important "kick-off" meeting. If you are not currently "registered" as a Scout Leader, I will ask that you fill out a form to be submitted to the Scout office ASAP. (You can tell if you are "registered" as a leader if you have been receiving the mailings from the Scout Council office.) If you have not been receiving these monthly communications, plan to fill out a new form. I will have the blanks.
EXPECTATIONS - Training and Uniforms
I wish to reiterate that I expect at least one of your Den Leaders be "trained" by the Scout Office as soon as possible. http://www.milwaukeeboyscouts.org/districts/ironhorse/training.htm
During our "Pack meetings" and "Pack outings" that at least one of you wear an "official" Boy Scout uniform shirt. (I will let you know which patches to place on the shirt and where they should go.)
PACK MEETING DATES
September 17th, October 15th, November 19th, December 12th, January 21st, February 18th, March 18th, April 15th, and May 20th.
PACK LEADERS MEETING DATES
We will try bi-monthly "committee" meetings at this time as I don't like too many meetings.
September 10th, November 12th, January 14th, March 11th, and May 13th
* most often the times for the meetings will be 7:00 - 8:00 (1 hour max.) unless we vote to extend one.
INFO SECTION
We (Pack 474) are now in the newly formed "Iron Horse" District. See this link for details: http://www.milwaukeeboyscouts.org/districts/index.html It is the only district that has a working web link at this time, albeit the data is old.
SCOUT NIGHT at Lincoln. On September 19th, 2002 from 6:30 - 8:00PM in the hallway. I will be "manning" a booth in uniform to sign up new scouts. If others of you want to volunteer, it would be impressive to new parents if you could also have on a scout uniform shirt and assist parents in filling out the forms. Call me (777-0047) or talk to me at the Leader Meeting.
LEADER(S) NEEDED ALERT!
The 1st year Cub Scouts (last year's Tigers) have only 2 leaders to lead the over 14 boys. This is not acceptable. I need another individual to step forward and join Tracy Lockhart and Stacy Mills in leading this Den. I think with 3 leaders we can accommodate the large den. (My preference would be to have 2 dens of 1st years, with 2 leaders each). PLEASE! Approach parents of scouts to consider this important leadership position.

Thanks Joe,
I ll have a newsletter cobbled together for the first Pack meeting September 17th, which you can also hand out at the Lincoln open house (I ll make extra copies). PLEASE, if any further information solidifies from your leader meeting, such a camping date/location, try to get that information to me before September 14th so that I can add it to the newsletter. I should also include a list of volunteers needed so we can rake people over the coals at that first meeting. Hey, it got me doing the newsletter last year!
I can t make this first leader meeting, but I will try to make subsequent meetings if they do not conflict with my business travel plans.
Thanks again,
Mark

Would anyone be able to attend a Cub Scout Popcorn Orientation on Monday Night (9-16) from 7-8PM? It is at the Pieper Power Center of the Boy Scout Headquarters on 84th Street. They will "orient" you (as Committee Chair) to the Popcorn selling activity. They will give you enough supplies for all our boys to sell popcorn. You do not have to "coordinate" the actual sale, just fine someone who will and offer support. The guy (Don Brown) said we could make as much as $7,000.00.
The other "orientations" are on the 17th and 18th. But, if we are able to go on the 16th, we could distribute the materials at the Pack Meeting to the Den Leaders.
Let me know...

Hey, Joe -
Great job getting all this organized on Tuesday night. Sorry I couldn't be there, but as I said before, we've got a great presentation involving secret codes that we'd like to do at the Pack Meeting. Let me know if that works for you. I will alert our guys that we'll be doing flags next week.
Also, I would like to make a presentation on summer camping at the Blue & Gold Dinner. I plan on making an earlier deadline this year, so we have a better chance of getting our first choice of dates.

I need a Pack 474 roster list for the Pinewood Derby weigh-in. I need to
get that list to one of the volunteers for the Pinewood Weigh-in.
I also received a letter from Scout council on a meeting for the IMR camping
outings for this year. We need to send (2) members from our pack to attend
this meeting. The Camping Chairperson ( Dave Mohr?) and another Den leader,
committee member or a parent volunteer. I believe Dave Mohr is our Camping

register by Jan. 10, 2003. Please call me when you have a chance to discuss
these and other issues.

Joe,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I do believe you changed the Pack 474 Committee meeting from Jan.7, 2003(your house) to Jan. 14, 2003 (Pinewood Weigh-in). Is that correct? We also need to set a time and date to go over the Charter membership. Let know when you might be available. Have you heard anything from Sue Patton or Mike W on the Pack 474 Winter outing?
Thanks Bracken,

Thanks for the email Bracken! I love it when I can print out a list of issues that need my attention, so that I can check off things as I accomplish them. It really helps me stay organized!
I'll send you a list of scouts via email by the end of tomorrow.
Dave Mohr is the scout camping coordinator for Pack 474. Contact him and let him know about the Jan. 16th meeting. If you would like to accompany him, please do. If either one or both of you cannot make the meeting, let me know. We can work on someone else. I would suggest Mark McNeely because he really likes camping. Or perhaps Rob Bertz.
Thanks again for the email!

Joe,
Two thoughts. One, has the Pack leadership kicked around the idea of a Pack outing to the Milwaukee Brewers? I was thinking perhaps an outing before school lets out for summer. Maybe a Saturday or Sunday game so it s convenient. I don t know if cost would be an issue, but as a family we go to a bunch of games each year.
Two, is there anything for the Newsletter that you feel should be in the Feb. 18th issue? I ve got camping information and a Pinewood Derby wrap up with pictures. I want that newsletter done anytime before February 16th.
Thanks,

Joe,
I will plan on making a brief announcement at the dinner, with maybe a show of hands to gauge interest. If there s enough interest, I will move forward with something more formal (tickets, dates, etc.)
Also, when/where is the bowling again? Neither Karen nor I picked up the info at the Pinewood Derby. Do we just show up or pay in advance? It will probably be Dan and I. Do I bring my ball?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello,
I am concerned that the TIGERS are not aware of the upcoming Blue and Gold Dinner on February 18th. If you have not been to a pack meeting to get the flyer or hear the announcements about the dinner, it is possible that you do not know about it. If you need information about signing up your family, please respond to this email immediately. There is a $5.00 per person cost with a portion of the actual cost being paid for through Pack funds.
ALL are welcome!
Susan Patton (pattonsb@hotmail.com) is coordinating this event and the money is due to her by the 7th of February.

Hello
Just a few Pack-related reminders:
LEADERS and COMMITTEE MEMBERS - There is an important Pack Committee meeting tonight (Tuesday March 11, 2003) at 7:00 PM! It will be held at the Well's home at 1617 Ridge Ct. Please attend or send at least one of your Den's Leadership team.
SCOUTING FOR FOOD - Everyone (all parents and cubs) able to help out with the delivery of the food collection bags, please meet at the Lincoln Parking lot at 8:00 AM - Saturday March 15, 2003 for your assigned area and bunch-o-bags. It should take us about 2 hours to distribute our allottment of 2000 bags to the front doors of our assigned area. -- Pick up for the food items is just as important and it happens the following Saturday morning, March 22. Please indicate via a response to this email, whether you are able to help out.
PACK MEETING - March 18, 2003 (7:00 PM) Lincoln Gymnasium. Theme: "How Does It Do That?" Look for exciting explanations from our own dens on the subject of things they have been doing this month. We will also hear from representatives of scouting during a "friends of scouting" presentation. We'll have snacks, songs, awards, and perhaps a surprise or two! Mark it on your (busy) calendars.

Hi Joe,
I will see you on both Saturday's. I will fax you the information we discussed last night. I also called the Sports Show (1-414-224-2101) all Scouts get in free at Sports Show March 18 + 19 from 3:00PM TO 6:00PM. All I had to do was give them my name and Pack 474 and the number of scouts. We do not have send in the registration form.I estimated 25 scouts. Chaperones can purchase tickets in advance at Kohl's food stores for $6.50, otherwise it is $8.00 at the gate. We do not have to go as a group. When you go to State Fair for the Sports Show, the Chaperone and cub scout should go to the Journal/Sentinel booth in Exhibit hall "A" and register the scout and the scout will get in free. They recommended parking on the race track because it is close to Exhibit hall "A". If anyone wants more information they can call me at home 1-414-774-5254.
Talk to you soon,

schedule has been pretty full the past couple of weeks. My goal is to get
them out this week. I will let you know when I complete the task.
Will there be a committee meeting before the last Pack meeting (picnic)? Let
me know.
Thanks,

I spoke to Don at the Scout Office about the pledge. He told me that in order to really belong to Scouts the boy needs to believe in a "supreme being". That said, the child can use whatever word he likes for the pledge, for example, substituting "Allah" for "God". I'm not sure if this solves our problem. Are the parents atheists? If so, Don says that is a problem. Can we talk with them and find a suitable word or phrase for their Supreme Being? Let me know if this helps or just muddies the water.
Thanks!

get back to me when you have a chance.

I received your phone message last night requesting awards. I am in town and would be available to do the paperwork for your Webelos Activity Pins/badges. I would ask that you go to the Scout Center and pick these up.
Please try and revisit the PC issue and see if someone in your den could have Packmaster installed. The dens that are doing this, make the whole award process very easy to report back and forth and update records.

Hello Pack 474:
I will be out of town from May 18- May 30.
I will be going to the scout store this coming Friday May 16th. I will only be going once, so if you would like me to get any awards for the month of may to be given at the picnic, please let me know. I do plan on being at the picnic, however I will be giving all the awards to Joe Devereaux, just in case I cannot make it. Thanks again.

Subject: Re: tiger scouts, lincoln

Sandy,
Thank you for sharing your concerns with Aaron. First off, If he will be advancing to first grade with the rest of his class next year, he is eligible for the Tiger program. As for my personal experience with a child such as Aaron, I admit I personally have none. Let me tell you a bit more about the Tiger program and perhaps you and Brad can make a more informed choice for Aaron.
Tigers is meant to be an introduction to Cub Scouting. The program is about 20 years old and is intended to slowly immerse the young aspiring boy into the routine of meetings, outings, gatherings, ceremony, etc. Tigers join the rest of the Pack for all of the social gatherings, etc. but have a unique program specially designed for them at their age level.
Tigers have Den Meetings just like Cub Scouts, but the structure is different. A den leader leads each den meeting and den activity and an adult partner of one of the Tiger Cubs takes a turn working with the den leader to plan and lead a den meeting and/or activity. Aaron would be a member of a den. Most dens have five to nine boy-adult partner teams, (An adult partner can be a parent, relative, or friend who is at least 18 years old and who cares about the boy.) meet twice a month in a den meeting, and have one outing a month, called a Go See It. The den also takes part in the monthly pack meetings. ?Packs? are led by a Cubmaster (Me) and pack committee. Like the den leaders, the Cubmaster and assistants are volunteer leaders and are usually family members of boys in the pack. The pack committee makes plans for pack meetings and activities and takes care of the "business" items that are necessary for a pack to operate smoothly.
The ?meat? of the Tiger program is based upon having interesting and stimulating ?field trips.? These are called a ?Go See It.? They are coordinated by the Tiger Cub ?Coach? or ?Coaches? but are generally inspired, planned, setup, organized, etc. by a Tiger Cub Partner. This responsibility is divided equally amongst the adult partners of the Tiger Cubs.
I guess the Tiger program does two important things; It gets the boy ready for the experience of scouting, and the ?adult partner? ready to be a side by side participant with their boy throughout the next 6 years of Cub Scouting. Since you, Brad, or someone else who cares about Aaron will most often be accompanying him during Den and Pack Meetings, and the ?Go See Its?, a sense for how he is doing can be observed first hand. I also suspect that once the Tigers are established for the fall, you and Ann will want to plan how you are going to respond to a situation that makes Aaron uncomfortable. Perhaps you and she would like to have Aaron explain his condition to the other Tigers in a scientific, clinical and non-threatening way during a den meeting that just happens to have as its theme; health, or something like that.
Hopefully I have given you enough information about Tigers so that you may make the best choice for Aaron. Know that if you should choose to give it a try, I will support your decision to join the Pack in any way that I can.
Sincerely,
Joseph Devereaux

I would much appreciate if you would handle the distribution of the booklets to the scouts as well. I will forward you the list of scout names so that you may insert a flyer and 5 booklets into envelopes addressed to the individual scouts.
I will tell all the parents about this program at the parent night portion at the September 16th pack meeting, hand out as many of the "filled" envelopes (containing the flyer and booklets) that night, and mail the remaining envelopes to the homes of those scouts we can't reach in person.

By the way, will it be you and I who will determine what achievements

I think I can make the November 5 meeting, I put it on the calendar. Is there anything I can do for it? Also, does the pack have any budget for a library? I'd like to spend about $50 - 60 on reference books for the leaders. We talked at training about getting them and where we might keep them. We thought we might ask Jeanine Brennan if we could put them in a corner of the library and have leaders check them out like regular library books. If we can do this, I'd be happy to pick up the books and talk to Jeanine about it. Let me know your thoughts, or perhaps we could spend a minute on it at the meeting. Thanks!

Thanks!<br>

Here is the situation with Den 5. After sending out letters to all the parents of 2nd grade boys I got one response. We lost 2 boys from last year, so the Den is at 4 boys total. None of the parents of the other three boys are willing or able to co-lead the den with me. So, I told them at our organizational meeting 2 weeks ago that they would all have to attend the meetings and help me. They were agreeable to this, but will see how much they participate. Our first official meeting is tonight, so we are just getting started. I will give everyone a copy of the Pack meeting schedule, so that they know when to attend. My situation is also complicated by the fact that Tuesday nights are very busy for us right now, as is the rest of the week. Dawn is in rehearsal 5 nights a week for her play, so on Tuesday nights David has choir and Sarah has her violin lesson. Add homework and everything else, it is unlikely that I will be at a pack meeting until January. However, I will encourage the rest of the Den to attend them. I m not interested in having volunteers come in and run the Den meetings because I don t want to let the Den 5 parents off the hook. They need to step up and help!!! I will continue to work on that. Thanks for the offer! One last thing. One of the families in the Den has been unemployed for over a year, so buying the cub scout shirt may be a problem for them. Mark Rose and I will probably help them financially so that they can get one. If you know of anyone who has one that they are not using, that would be helpful.

Dear Mr. Clarke,
The Cub Scouts of Pack 474 will be having their annual UNIFORM INSPECTION
at their next PACK meeting. That meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM on
Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Lincoln Elementary School Gymnasium.
As the Cubmaster for the Pack, I try to arrange a special "inspector" for
that segment of the evening's meeting. Basically, all that is involved is
for you to "inspect" the scout DENS one at a time as I bring them forward
on stage, with an eye toward how they are supposed to be dressed in their
uniforms. The "winning" DEN gets a special recognition from the PACK. We
do this to impress on the young boys, how important wearing your FULL
uniform can be.
I wish to ask you if you would consider being our "special guest inspector"
for that evening. I'll have the inspection at approximately 7:15 PM and
can't imagine that it would last more than 15 minutes. (If you are allowed
to wear your uniform at that time, it would be extra special.)
If you agree to helping us with this, with your permission, I will promo
the event around the school and to all the parents of the boys.
(I met you on the 4th of July at the MAD MUG. You had your spurs on. I
shook your hand. I was so impressed that all I could say at the time was, "
I think you're great!" (yeah, I know, pretty lame huh?....)
EVENT: PACK 474 (www.cubscouts.org ) November Uniform Inspection
PLACE: Lincoln Elementary School - 1741 Wauwatosa Ave. - Wauwatosa, WI

I don't have a scout route list, but if you could forward this to see if
anybody is interested in selling community day coupons at Boston Store the
weekends prior to the event, we can sign up to do 2 hour stints. It can be
a parent and a scout.
These are the slots that are available,
but people should let me know as soon as possible, so they don't get booked.
Sue said we could have 3 slots.
Friday Nov. 7 6- 8 pm
Saturday Nov. 8 2-4 pm

groups!!!! I offered weekend selling at the doors to groups that I did not
invite to volunteer. Call me, I have a master calender and have not gotten
much response from those groups. I did 2 hour shifts friday night, saturday
& sunday. I just ask that we have 1 adult present when they sell packets.
And you really only need 2 people total. You sell your own packets at the
lower east door.
so call me.

Sue -
I do not have an exact count, but I would guess that we are about 100
coupon books sold. I just talked it up at the Pack meeting and got
people a little more charged up. That and the fact that each scout
needs to raise through one of our 3 fundraisers $75 or just right a
check for that amount, it became much more popular than having to sell
$225 in popcorn!

The site was done by me in my spare time, so no charge. It is being hosted by my church's ISP so there is no cost there either. Similar deals can be found if you wish to get into it yourself and have connections. Otherwise, I would not go into a "deal" on a website unless you have had some experience. You are likely to get ripped off by the company that builds your site. Who is your sponsor? Is it your school, your local church, or some other non-profit? You can probably piggy back off the sponsor's site if you check into it.

Once again, the password on the Cub Scout page is 20Cubscouts03.
Also, I really think you should rename your files so that there are no spaces....for instance, rename:
http://www.cubscouts.org/Administration%20(Pack%20474).htm
to
http://www.cubscouts.org/Administration(Pack474).htm (the %20 indicates a blank space). The reason you would need to do this is that some browsers will not be able to open the files with black spaces (for instance, pdf files). If you decide to do this, and I hope you will, please let me know what the new names are so that I can correct the perl scripts, etc.

I just got around to sending you the webform (previous email).
The problem has been corrected and I just sent you a new test page.
That's really cool how you have the two "reports" open in the same window as the login with the phrase, "Protected Pages" in the menu bar. (It does however take a fairly long time to load and I've got a T1 here)
That's not a problem I can fix. It has to do with file size, etc. :-(
Also, I see what you mean about the .pdf treasurer's report. I can't get it to load into the window when I use IE 6.0. I will rename the files as recommended when I get home tonight. I can't reach my files or WSftp program here at my "real job."
Ok...once you get the file names changed, let me know and I will need to change the paths in scripts, etc. If you want to email me at home, please do so at prairielady@charter.net.
Back to WAUMC - Could you hide the filepath if we (you) approached the document from the same angle as we are doing with the cubscouts page? In other words, have the user click on one wore link inside the window (once they have validated the password) that says, "WAUMC Member Directory Information in .pdf format" Would that then give us the cloaking we enjoy in the cubscouts example? It would also allow me to add more (secure) document choices in the future.
Yes, we can do that, especially if you plan to add secure documents to the list in the future. I may not get to it today...I am working on some server problems, but will try to get to it as soon as I can.

I've got your links page set up for those 3 files already. However, they are not going to work on some computers because you haven't gotten rid of the blank spaces in the names of your files/folders/directories. Once again, I urge you to get rid of ALL blank spaces in the names of your files/folders/directories by either just eliminating the blank spaces or replacing them with underscores. I know this is a royal pain, but there is nothing I can do to make the links work if the blank spaces are there.
Wishing you a good day.

Well, I thought we could give the user 3 choices once they login. They would be:

However, they are not going to work on some computers because you haven't gotten rid of the blank spaces in the names of your files/folders/directories. Once again, I urge you to get rid of ALL blank spaces in the names of your files/folders/directories by either just eliminating the blank spaces or replacing them with underscores. I know this is a royal pain, but there is nothing I can do to make the links work if the blank spaces are there.
Wishing you a good day.

Well, I thought we could give the user 3 choices once they login. They would be:
1. The treasurer's report
2. A report that list the ADULT leaders
3. A report that lists the SCOUTS
Is that possible?

Hi, Joe
Your folder Important Documents should read either ImportantDocuments or Important_Documents.
Your folder in Important Documents named Treasurer's Info should be either TreasurersInfo or Treasurers_Info.
Your folder in Important Documents named Pack Leaders should be either PackLeaders or Pack_Leaders.
Actually, any folder names that are going to be part of a link on your website should not have spaces in them. :-)
I hope this helps. Have a good day.

trophies. Please let me know your opinion as I need to get these

Hi Joe,
Pack 474 is officially re-chartered with BSA. I went last night and they were very organized this year. Last year I waited in line for 1 1/2 hours and last night I was out in 20 minutes.
Hi Bob,
The cost of the re-charter was $520.00. Bob do you have the name of a contact at the company ( old ABB) you were telling about on Saturday night. What is the new name of the firm ?
Let me know when you have a chance,
See you Thursday,

Lisa,
It's not "Bag Distribution" Day, rather "Bag Collection" Day. My idea was that if folks knew there was a "celebrity" going around COLLECTING food, they may be more apt to actually have something on the doorstep. (You know, to catch a glimpse of perhaps meet said celebrity.) Maybe they would even wait near the door with the food between 9:00 - 11:00 AM?
I have attached a .pdf with all the details I know. Hopefully that will be enough for you to assemble something for the media.

We will have an educational program at about the same time utilizing the museum for a short period and "may" utilize the other picnic area? Which one do you want (the large one that F&M uses for picnics or the smaller one)? I'll work it up when you let me know. Thanks.

Joe,
I doubt in the midst of our frequently interrupted and quite distracted
conversation that I mentioned when I was at the office email. We're
good to go now. My spouse converted computers so my address book info
is gone, thus I only had the addresses of the newest incoming mail.
One of the things I wanted to mention. I feel bad that I don't do more
for the troop. I've helped Ann with a few craft projects and outings
for Tigers but that's been mostly it. I am President Elect for the
Association for Women in Communications and will be stepping into the
lead role in July. For that reason I've replaced myself in most of my
volunteer roles. However, I can still do some things to help out and
would like to. I'm a media / pr person so can help when that comes up.
Also, I do lots of kids craft activities, my Mom was an elementary art
teacher so I grew up doing sample projects with her. Any kind of
project you think fits let me know.

Hi Joe,
Sorry I missed the meeting last night, I was actually trying to attend, but we had the city wide string festival at East.
Two questions for you from Den 5.
Could you please e-mail me the flag ceremony since we are supposed to do that at the next Pack meeting. We may need to ask another cub scout to help us since one of our den members has not been able to be involved recently because of a family situation.
Secondly, for skit night at the next Pack meeting, is there a theme that we should follow in preparing the skit?
Thanks for your help, I will wait patiently for your humble reply.

All,
Please help us out with the Scouting for Food PICK-UP this Saturday (March 27th) beginning at 9:00 AM.
Meet in the LINCOLN SCHOOL PARKING LOT (Not the Lutheran Church) at 8:45 AM.
Divide into groups as per section (see map http://www.cubscouts.org/Scouting%20For%20Food%20Page%202004.htm)

· Pick up the food in the bags along with Larry Hisle of the Brewers from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM
· Drop your food bags off at the Wauwatosa Fire Station on Watertown Plank road as soon as you have completed your collection.
I am not able to attend, so please consult with Bob Marszalkowski and Merrick Wells, who will be in charge.
Thanks!

Joe -
Below is the information for den 1's spring clean up at the Damon House on Saturday. Unfortunately, my home email is down and that is where I have most of my scout email addresses are. If you could forward this info to Tracy and/or to as many den 1 emails you have I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure if the correct time was originally communicated.
Thanks,

Damon House spring clean-up is this Saturday
As we do each year, neighbors will get together at 10 a.m. this Saturday to do our neighborhood's part in spring cleaning.
We'll be raking leaves and litter from the grounds of the Damon House Museum, 2107 Wauwatosa Ave.
Just show up with a rake and garden gloves and pitch in.
With your help, we're sure we'll be done before noon.
Volunteers will be given coupons for free admission to the Zoo or a county park swimming pool/water slide.

Hi Sue,
I think Bob M was planning on doing the shopping for the picnic. He was planning on doing on the 19th. Yes, we will be cooking at my house on the 20th @ 6:00pm. We can do inventory at my house on the night of the 20th. Do we have people bringing firewood? We should also have stuff for smore's and roasting marshmallows. Do we have enough paper products, cups and eating utensils.

Hi Bracken,
When do you plan on doing the shopping for the scout picnic? Let me know and then I can get you the final count from the sign-up sheets I got back.
Are we still cooking at your house on the 20th? And what time?

Hi all,
Let me know when you need final numbers, the sign-up forms are still coming in. I don't think I can be there at 6 on the 20th, maybe later. We should have enough napkins and plastic ware, but we will need to buy more plates and cups. We also have tortilla chips left over from the B&G. All those items are in the Scout closet at school, I think Lindsey is going to pick that up on the day of the picnic. Bob, is that still the case? If not, maybe someone can grab everything after Den 1's Den meeting next week. Jerry Hiersman will bring firewood, and he is going to try to be there early to help set up on the 21st. Mark McNeely will be this year's "grill master", he is bringing his grill. If there is anything else I can do, let me know.

Hello Gentlemen,
As of today, Monday, May 17, this is the count for the picnic:
26 Burgers
21 Brats
22 Hot Dogs
A total of 52 people, but I have not heard from the Heiges family, so just check with Bracken.
I also have not heard from the Lockharts, has anyone heard if they plan on coming? And none of the Wolves have responded.
I have a work obligation on Thursday, so I will not be able to help with pre-cooking and bread consumption! Have fun. Please let me know if there is any last minute details I can attend to or any shopping I can do.
See you all on Friday! Susan

Subject: Pack 474-July Camping events at IMR
Date: 6/21/04
Hi Mark,
I have a couple of questions for you.
Is the day camp at IMR July 26-28 (Monday thru Wednesday)?
How many boys are signed up for day camp?
Do we have enough parent volunteers to drive the boys to the camp?
I believe we need one adult volunteer for every three boys.
I would be willing to drive on Monday July 26,2004.
Is the overnight camp July 31-August 1?
Will you be sending notification to all who signed up for day and night camp?
Where will we meet and what time for departure?
Who will drive the boys to day camp?
What requirements will the boys fulfill whether Cub Scout or Webelo?
I still owe you $54.00 for the overnight camping. Sorry for the delay, I keep forgetting I owe for the overnight camp.
Please advise,

Bracken, et.al.,
I was just talking to Dan yesterday that I need to get reminders out to
all campers. I will do that this week. Karen has made a spreadsheet of
who has paid and who still owes. One bright spot is that most of the
campers will probably be able to use their original "health history"
forms that we all filled out for the November camping.
I'll answer the other questions with the reminder letter.
Thanks for getting me off top dead center.

School Night to Join Scouting - 2005
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2004 (7 PM - 8 PM)
The big night is Thursday, September 16. This is our best opportunity to recruit new kids into Scouting.
All Milwaukee Public, private and suburban schools will be open to register youth into the Scouting program.
Meet at:
Lincoln Elementary School Gymnasium (7:00 PM)
1741 Wauwatosa Ave.
Wauwatosa, WI 53213
Please consider sending a Wave player who was into Cub or Boy Scouting in their past.
Thanks much!

The Cub Scouts of Pack 474 would also LOVE to have the Wave mascot do a special appearance on March 19th, 2005. We will be collecting food bags filled with donated food during the 2005 SCOUTING FOR FOOD DRIVE. I would like the mascot to accompany the boys as they make their rounds in Wauwatosa between 9 AM and 11 AM. I feel that if residents see the special "parade" of scouts with the Wave mascot, they may be more apt to actually donate food filled bags.
Let me know if the mascot is available and what the cost would be. We would meet at the Lincoln Elementary School Parking lot at 1741 Wauwatosa Ave. at 9:00 AM on March 19th. (Good costume wearing weather eh?)
Thanks much!
